Chalice

——

A chalice or goblet is a footed cup intended to hold a drink. In religious practice, a chalice is often used for drinking during a ceremony or may carry a certain symbolic meaning.

Christian

In Roman Catholicism, Eastern Orthodoxy, Oriental Orthodoxy, Anglicanism, Lutheranism and some other Christian denominations, a chalice is a standing cup used to hold sacramental wine during the Eucharist. Chalices are often made of precious metal, and they are sometimes richly enameled and jeweled. The gold goblet was symbolic for family and tradition.

The chalice is considered to be one of the most sacred vessels in Christian liturgical worship, and it is often blessed before use. In the Roman Catholic Church, and some Anglo-Catholic churches, it was the custom for a chalice to be consecrated by being anointed with chrism, and this consecration could only be performed by a bishop or abbot (only for use within his own monastery).

The Holy Chalice, also known as the Holy Grail, is in Christian tradition the vessel that Jesus used at the Last Supper to serve wine. The Synoptic Gospels refer to Jesus sharing a cup of wine with the Apostles, saying it was the covenant in his blood. The use of wine and chalice in the Eucharist in Christian churches is based on the Last Supper story.

Witches

The chalice, or goblet, is symbolic for the element of Water. Many Witches do not consider it to be a tool, but instead to be a symbol of the Goddess, particularly her womb. The chalice bears many similarities with the Holy Grail, except for its symbolism used in witchcraft. Rather than being the blood of Christ, it is symbolic of the Goddess’ womb. The chalice is often used to hold wine.

In Witches a chalice, as a feminine principle, is often used in combination with the Athame (ceremonial black-handled knife), as male principle. Combining the two evokes the act of procreation, as a symbol of universal creativity. This is a symbol of the Great Rite in Witches rituals. A chalice is also used in the Small Rite. Use it to hold any appropriate wine for your magic, offerings and/or drink. Your chalice is placed in the West: Water Element direction.

Magical Spells

——

Once the altar is ready I will cleanse myself physically and then with copal incense, and then clean up the entire room with the copal incense. The tools and ingredients that will be used for the ceremony will be also cleaned of all bad energy with copal. Before I start I make sure that I will not be interrupted by anything during the ceremony and shutdown any telephone or cellular. I also make sure to answer any calls of nature beforehand. Then the actual ceremony can begin. It always follows the same ritual that I have worked out over the years.

  • 1. I meditate to empty my mind of all extraneous thoughts and to get rid of any bad mental energy.
  • 2. I then visualize what I am trying to accomplish with all of the spells I plan to do during the ceremony and the impact that they will make on the people I am planning to help.
  • 3. I then gather my mental energy and then call to me the powers of the earth and the universe to add themselves to my own.
  • 4. In a loud voice I declare a statement of intent to let know to the universe what I plan to do with the gathered powers.
  • 5. I then cast a magic circle of power all around my altar.
  • 6. I anoint my ceremonial candle and light it.
  • 7. I invoke the powers of the universe to join me and share their energy in my ceremony.
  • 8. I bless the ritual space.
  • 9. I anoint and light the main candle for the ceremony.
  • 10. I cast all of the spells I plan to do in the ceremony.
  • 11. I bless the cake and honey.
  • 12. I conclude the ceremony.
  • 13. To recharge the huge amount of energy I used casting the spells I eat part of the cake and drink a bit of the wine, leaving the rest as an offering to the universal soul.
  • 14. I meditate to clear my mind from the trauma of the work.
  • 15. I snuff my ceremonial candle.
  • 16. I release the circle of power so that I can leave the ritual space.
  • 17. I normally leave the altar untouched until early the next morning, unless I need to do another ceremony later on the same day. I leave the main candle burning until it is all burnt and burry the remains safely.

I normally try to do a single large ceremony daily unless the volume of spells needing to be done is too much, or different requested spells can conflict with each other so they need to be done in different ceremonies with a thorough cleaning in between. I normally take a day off from doing magic once in the week to recharge my powers. If I do not do so, it takes too much out of me mentally and physically.

On the altar you place your special magical tools that you will need for the ceremony. Normally on the left side are placed the tools that are related to the female side of the universal soul. I normally place a red crystal cup or chalice filled with wine as an offering to the universal soul, a small bell, a small container of salt, and my cauldron. On the right side are place the tools associated with the male side of the universal soul. I place my athame, my magic wand, my grimoires, some cleaning incense and whatever incense I will use for the ceremony.

I also normally place magical objects that have special meaning to me to aid me in concentrating like some stones or crystals, a pendulum, a sickle, a small crystal bowl with seeds in it depending on the type of spells I will cast. If I work alone I will place my own ceremonial candle on the right side of the altar, and if I will work with my High Witch she will place hers on the left side.

In between there will be a special candle for the ceremony. Before the ceremony I normally print a list of all the spells I will be doing and of all the ingredients I need for them. I will select the main candle to better fit the purpose of the ceremony. I then assemble all of the ingredients on the altar or in a drawer beneath the altar. Herbs and similar things are measured beforehand and place in small dished on the altar. I normally place a plate on the altar with some cake with honey to help in recuperating my energy at the end of the ceremony, and to leave as an offering to the universal soul.

Magical Spells

——

My personal view of magic is that it is one of the basic forces of the universe that is located on the spiritual plane where our souls and the universal soul reside. This force, like all the other ones, can be used and manipulated by those who know why. By using a combination of the spiritual powers of that force, the powers of the physical world, and the Witch own personal powers, a magical spell can be cast to affect both the spiritual and the physical world.

To properly cast a magic spell the wizard must first prepare himself both physically and mentally. He must clean himself and dress himself in comfortable clothes. Most professional Witch use comfortable loose-fitting ceremonial robes that they only wear to do magic, so that the clothes are not contaminated by any bad energy coming from outside. I normally wear loose-fitting ceremonial robe if the temperature is not too stifling.

Depending on their personal circumstances a Witch might decide to work outside in a peaceful area, or inside their house or workplace. Normally magical work is done at an altar, and this altar can be as simple as the corner of your dining room table or a little folding table, or as elaborate as a specially build intricately carved altar in a room or outdoor place specially built to do magic. I now work in my altar room, but eventually when we move to a quieter area I want to build an outdoor altar area where I can work closer to the forces of nature.

Once you have made your decision on where to work magic, you must clean the area where the magical ceremony will be cast to make sure that no bad energies are accumulated in that area. If you do a lot of magical work, you might decide to setup a special corner of a room with a permanent altar, or even prepare a special room in you house just to do magic. First the floor is vacuumed or swept if you work indoor and then the altar is dusted. Most Witches will place an altar cloth on their altar and it can be as simple or elaborate as you wish. I normally use a nice silk altar cloth of appropriate color and design to suit the spells I plan to accomplish.

Witchcraft Altar

——

An altar is a structure upon which offerings such as sacrifices are made for religious purposes. Altars are found at shrines, temples, churches and other places of worship. They are used particularly in Pagan, Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, Judaism, Modern Paganism, and Witchcraft. Many historical faiths also made use of them, including Witchcraft, Roman, Greek, and Norse religion.

Personal altars are those placed in a private bedroom, closet, or other space usually occupied by one person. They are used for practices of piety intended for one person.

Witchcraft Altar

A Witchcraft altar is a raised structure or place used for worship or prayer, upon which a Witchcraft practitioner places several symbolic and functional items for the purpose of worshiping the God and Goddess, casting spells, and/or saying chants and prayers. There are many types of altars Witchcraft may choose to use during ritual. Depending the rite they are performing, the material used for their altars may vary. This is because in many circles, different types of wood are believed to carry certain magical qualities. The altar is often considered a personal place where practitioners put their ritual items.

Some Witchcraft arrange their altars to represent all four elements and directions. In the North the earth element is represented; in the east is air, in the south is fire, and in the west water. These elements can be represented in various ways, but generally do not vary in elemental and directional correspondences. When placing items on an altar or when a practice involving inviting the elements to be a part of the circle and lend their power a practitioner will move clockwise and when dismissing the elements they will move counter-clockwise.

Common items on a Witchcraft altar include athame, broom, candles, cauldron, chalice, incense, pentacle, wand, etc. Some of the items represent the Earth’s four elements, but elements may be represented more literally, with gems, salt, water, plant material, etc.

Pentacle

——

Pentagram

A Pentagram is an ancient spiritual symbol shaped as a five-pointed star with one point aligned upwards. With a single point upwards it depicted spirit presiding over the four elements of matter, and was essentially “good”. It is considered to be representative of the five elements from which man is made, namely fire, air, water, earth and spirit. The Pentagram has been one of the most persistent and powerful symbols in our history and was revered by nearly all ancient cultures, be it Egyptian, Greek, Babylonian, Chinese, Indian or Mayan. The mystic icon is considered to hold several layers of symbolism. It is viewed as a symbol of life, love, light, unity, wholeness, and quest for divine knowledge.

Pentacle

Some people believe that a Pentagram is not circled, while a Pentacle has the star enclosed by a circle. Still, others say that a Pentagram is a diagram or drawing of the star and is referred to as a Pentacle only when it takes the form of a physical object. A pentacle is an amulet used in magical evocation, generally made of parchment, paper, cloth, wood, or metal (although it can be of other materials), on which the symbol of a spirit or energy being evoked is drawn. It is often worn around the neck, or placed within the triangle of evocation.

Pentacles may be sewn to the chest of one’s garment, or may be flat objects that hang from one’s neck or are placed flat upon the ground or altar. Pentacles are almost always shaped as disks or flat circles. Many varieties of pentacle can be found in the grimoire. This form of pentacle is formed upon a disk which may be used either upon an altar or as a sacred space of its own. The pentacle is representative of the Earth in occult usage.

The Good, Universal Consciousness, including both individual and world Soul, leading finally to Nature, The Pentacle right side up represents the Divine ruling over the world of matter. Let us not forget that it also represents the elements Spirit, Water, Air, Earth, and Fire as shown below. This is most commonly used Pentacles by most people in Witchcraft.

Witchcraft Morality

——

Witchcraft Morality is largely expressed in the Witchcraft Rule: “Do what you like so long as you harm none” – it is usually interpreted as a declaration of the freedom to act, along with the necessity of thinking through and taking responsibility for the consequences of one’s actions. “None” can apply to only the self, or it may include animals and/or plants, and so forth. In essence, the Rule can be fully understood as meaning that one should always follow their true will instead of trying to obtain simple wants and to ensure that following one’s will does not harm anyone or anything. In this light, the Rule can be seen as encouraging a Witchcraft to take personal responsibility for their actions.

The Golden Rule is the principle of treating others as you want to be treated. It is a maxim that is found in most religions and cultures. It can be considered an ethic of reciprocity in some religions, although different religions treat it differently.

The maxim may appear as a positive or negative injunction governing conduct:

  • Treat others as you would like others to treat you (positive or directive form)
  • Do not treat others in ways that you would not like to be treated (negative or prohibitive form)
  • What you wish upon others, you wish upon yourself (empathetic or responsive form)

Another element of Witchcraft Morality is expressed in the Law of Threefold Return, which is understood to mean that whatever one does to another person or thing, benevolent or otherwise, returns with triple force. Opinions differ on whether the form taken by the return of harmful actions might include bad reputation, revenge by others, negative emotional states, an uneasy conscience, poor luck, malign magical influences, something resembling the Hindu concept of Karma, or some combination of some or all of these, and also on to what extent the number three should be interpreted poetically rather than literally.

A common belief amongst Witchcraft is that no magic, even of a beneficent nature, should be performed on any other person without that person’s direct informed consent. This stems from the understanding that it would interfere with that person’s free will and thus constitute “harm”. “Love spells” are very much frowned upon by the greater Witchcraft community for precisely this reason.

Charge of these being mirth, reverence, honour, humility, strength, beauty, power and compassion. Describing this Witchcraft as “a joyous religion”. It asserted that the “General Meeting of all members of the Witchcraft”. At the former, magical rites were performed both for malevolent and benevolent ends. The concept of ethical reciprocity is not explicitly stated, but most Witchcraft interpret to imply the Golden Rule in the belief that the spirit of the Rule is to actively do good for one’s fellow humans as well as for oneself.

Magic Circle

——

A magic circle is a sacred and purified space in which rituals, magical work and ceremonies are conducted, which they generally believe will contain energy and form a sacred space, or will provide them a form of magical protection, or both. It offers a boundary for a reservoir of concentrated power and acts as a doorway to the world of the gods. The magic circle is an archetypal symbol of wholeness, perfection and unity; the creation of the cosmos; the womb of mother Earth; the cycle of the seasons and birthdeath-regeneration. Within the circle, it becomes possible to transcend the physical, to open the mind to deeper and higher levels of consciousness.

Traditionally, circles were believed by ritual magicians to form a protective barrier between themselves and what they summoned. In practitioners generally cast magic circles to contain and concentrate the energy they raise during a ritual. Grimoires and other magical teachings give detailed instructions for casting the circle with consecrated ritual tools, such as an athame, sword or wand. The circle is drawn on a floor that has been carefully cleaned. Salt may be sprinkled around its perimeter to reinforce the boundary.

The circle is inscribed with magical symbols, words and Names of Power. In casting the circle, the magician moves clockwise, the motion of the sun, moon and stars through the sky. He leaves a small opening, then steps inside, closing the opening very carefully to prevent unwanted presences from entering. The magician consecrates the circle with the four elements, Earth, Air, Water and Fire, and invokes the guardian spirits who watch over the four quarters of the sky and the four elements. The circle is entered in anticipation of uniting with the gods and the forces of nature in a harmonious relationship, not to conjure or control spirits. The deities are invited to witness and participate in the rites; all spirits are treated respectfully.

Negative energy is banished prior to casting a circle. The consciousness of participants is prepared through meditation, visualization, breathing, drumming and other esoteric methods.

The altar and ritual tools, such as a wand, pentacle, censer, cauldron, scourge, athame, chalice, cords and other items, are placed inside the circle area. Witches working alone may have fewer tools. Candles, stones or other objects are placed on the Altar at the cardinal points. Offerings of food, stones, crystals, flowers and so on are made. At the close of rites, food and drink are consecrated, offered to the deities, and shared by all.

North

To the north was the source of great power. North, the cardinal point never touched by the Sun, was associated with darkness, mystery and the unknown.

East

The quarter of enlightenment, illumination, mysticism and the eternal. It corresponds to the element of Air, the athame, the colors red or white. The northeast is the symbolic dividing line between the path of darkness and the path of light. The east represents mankind’s highest and most spiritual consciousness.

South

Solar energy, the Sun, the element Fire, the colors blue or white, and the magic wand are associated with the south. This is the quarter of the will, the direction and channeling of the energy forces of nature and the psychic. In the south is the halfway meeting point between the spiritual intuition of the east and the rationality of the west. It represents the zenith of intellectuality, as the sun attains its zenith in the southern sky.

West

The quarter of Water, creativity, emotions, fertility and courage to face one is deepest feelings. It is associated with the chalice, the symbol of female creative power and fecundity, the after life, and the colors red or gray. In it represents reason, common sense, and mindedness.

The circle is usually closed by the practitioner after they have finished by drawing in the energy with the whatever was used to make the circle counter-clockwise. This is called closing the circle or releasing the circle. The term “opening” is often used, representing the idea the circle has been expanded and dissipated rather than closed in on itself. As a final release of energy, the spirits and deities are bid farewell, candles are extinguished, and the circle is ritually banished. It is important to close a circle in order not to leave the ritual space psychically active.

Magical Jewelry

——

Magical Jewelry

——

Jewelry consists of small decorative items worn for personal adornment, such as brooches, rings, necklaces, earrings, and bracelets. Jewelry may be attached to the body or the clothes, and the term is restricted to durable ornaments, excluding flowers for example. For many centuries metal, often combined with gemstones, has been the normal material for jewelry, but other materials such as shells and other plant materials may be used. The basic forms of jewelry vary between cultures but are often extremely long-lived; in European cultures the most common forms of jewelry listed above have persisted since ancient times, while other forms such as adornments for the nose or ankle, important in other cultures, are much less common. Historically, the most widespread influence on jewelry in terms of design and style have come from Asia.

Jewelry may be made from a wide range of materials. Gemstones and similar materials such as amber and coral, precious metals, beads, and shells have been widely used, and enamel has often been important. In most cultures jewelry can be understood as a status symbol, for its material properties, its patterns, or for meaningful symbols. Jewelry has been made to adorn nearly every body part, from hairpins to toe rings, and even genital jewelry. The patterns of wearing jewelry between the sexes, and by children and older people can vary greatly between cultures, but adult women have been the most consistent wearers of jewelry; in modern European culture the amount worn by adult males is relatively low compared with other cultures and other periods in European culture.

Form and Function

Humans have used jewelry for a number of different reasons:

  • Functional, generally to fix clothing or hair in place
  • As a marker of social status and personal status, as with a wedding ring
  • As a signifier of some form of affiliation, whether ethnic, religious or social
  • To provide talismanic protection (in the form of amulets)
  • As an artistic display
  • As a carrier or symbol of personal meaning such as love, mourning, a personal milestone or even luck
  • Superstition

Wearing of amulets and devotional medals to provide protection or to ward off evil is common in some cultures. These may take the form of symbols (such as the ankh or celtic shield knot), stones, plants, animals, body parts, or glyphs. I design every piece intending to cast a spell over the customer and transport him to another world. By way of enchanting earrings, rings, necklaces, bracelets, and much more, I wish to provide expressions of my passion, making them accessible to everyone everywhere.

This pendant was created with the intention to open the crown allowing the life energy of the universe to charge our physical bodies. Amethyst opens the crown while clear quartz cleanses the energetical body. Wearing this pendant is advised when feeling drained. Great to have during meditation. This pendant was created with the intention to solidify the connection with intuition as a primary guide in our essential manifestation. Carnelian awakens the intuitive powers, allowing us to surrender to the unknown by facilitating a healthy blood flow. Wearing this pendant is advised during periods of automatism and stagnation.

The strongest arsenal of powers is it may be the best gemstone ever found to harbor one is psychic abilities. There are stories of people touching the stone for the first time and experiencing out of this world visions that have greatly contributed to their lives.

Magical Gemstone

——

A gemstone is a piece of mineral crystal which, in cut and polished form, is used to make jewelry or other adornments However, certain rocks (such as lapis lazuli and opal) and occasionally organic materials that are not minerals (such as amber, jet, and pearl) are also used for jewelry and are therefore often considered to be gemstones as well. Most gemstones are hard, but some soft minerals are used in jewelry because of their luster or other physical properties that have aesthetic value. Rarity is another characteristic that lends value to a gemstone.

The traditional classification in the West, which goes back to the ancient Greeks, begins with a distinction between precious and semi-precious; similar distinctions are made in other cultures. In modern use the precious stones are diamond, ruby, sapphire and emerald, with all other gemstones being semi-precious. This distinction reflects the rarity of the respective stones in ancient times, as well as their quality: all are translucent with fine color in their purest forms. Other stones are classified by their color, translucency and hardness.

Aside from the diamond, the ruby, sapphire, emerald, pearl, and opal have also been considered to be precious. Up to the discoveries of bulk amethyst in Brazil in the 19th century, amethyst was considered a “precious stone” as well, going back to ancient Greece. Even in the last century certain stones such as aquamarine, peridot and cat’s eye have been popular and hence been regarded as precious.

The Magic movement has introduced different gems to guide us in our unique journeys. Most of the stones are just too riveting to not be in the mainstream spotlight. Simply for their beauty, many crystals and gemstones all over the world have been incorporated in jewelry making. But those who are aware of its healing effects know that there is something beyond its rainbow glimmer. Mainly named as the greatest psychic gemstone harmonizes all the different energies of our biological and spiritual makeup. It helps in the distribution of nutrients in our body while washing toxins away and healing digestive system disorders.

As for the emotional aspects, it is known to calm and soothe the heart. With its balancing energies, the wearer does not express or repress the emotion, but rather simply trust the Higher Will. Because it can pinpoint emotional patterns that had become bad habits, it can also filter volatile thoughts and replace them with a more balanced approach.

The wearer a flash of feeling and compassion to one is self that ultimately brings inner happiness. Since it is also linked to the feminine energies, it amplifies our intuitions. It is mostly used by women to enhance their psychic powers. As for men, the crystal makes them more in-sync with their feminine nature to bring an equilibrium to their emotional and rational sides.
